Aliante
Rome, Italy, 2025
ALI-ANTE is a light yet highly evocative architectural gesture.
The name evokes flight and lightness, recalling the memory of Italy’s first airport, which was established right here, in the Centocelle-area of Rome, where in 1909 the Wright brothers carried out their flight demonstrations. The installation interprets this past through a delicate balance between gravity and suspension.
The pavilion acts as a symbolic gateway to the neighbourhood and serves as a meeting place, rest stop, and point of orientation. Its open geometries invite people to pass through, to use it spontaneously, and to interact with it, turning it into a space of shade, gathering, and social exchange.
The project follows principles of environmental and operational sustainability: it uses travertine from quarry waste, employs dry assembly for easy disassembly and reuse, and features durable, low-maintenance materials, with no excavation or permanent foundation.
